Haute Fun in the Summertime

You may already know that I write a quarterly column, ALL THAT GLITTERS, for SisterDivas Magazine. My newest entry, Haute Fun in the Summertime, is now available online. Here’s a short excerpt:

We SisterDivas love the lazy days of summer – no matter where we live or how hot it gets. Unfortunately, the season’s far too short. Before long, pool toys will surrender their shelf space to school supplies; before you know it, we’ll be wondering where July and August went. But before all that happens, let’s indulge ourselves, shall we?

Here you go: 70 red-hot ideas for summer ‘07 – in list form, ’cause who wants to cool their heels in front of a computer screen when the sunshine’s beckoning us to come outside and play! (Follow this link to the lists.)

Thanks again, my super-cool LJ friends, for sharing your favorite summertime pleasures. I’ve listed your names at the end of the article.

  1. I had a bunch of “aha” moments but this one’s at the top of my list:

“Rediscovering the joy of running barefoot through a sprinkler”

Thanks for sharing this and bringing up so many memories.

    • I loved getting ideas from my LJ friends; they helped me remember all the cool things I used to do/wanted to do in the summer. Now that they’re on my summer 2007 to-do list, I won’t procrastinate in getting out there to do them.

*runs barefoot through sprinklers with you* 😉

    • Oooh, wouldn’t that be cool, er, haute?

I’d planned to make salad nicoise for dinner, but my house is like Noah’s Ark right now…more later, when I’ve got pics to post.

  2. yay! thanks, Melodye! That was fun! I linked your article on my blog, too, for my non-LJ readers. believe it or not, I have quite a few. It helps to come from a big family…

    • Thank you! I had a lot of fun writing it. (When it’s sweltering outside, it helps to have a handy list of cool things to wear and do.) I hope your fans enjoy seeing what you inspired me to write. 🙂

  3. Thanks, Melodye, for these 70 red-hot ideas for summer. It brought back wonderful memories and reminded me of things I haven’t done for far too long. I just remembered a fancy dance I went to and I wore one of my mom’s vintage dresses. It had a big poofy skirt with crinolines. There were tiny pink polkadots on the gauze skirt and there was a wide band of pink satin around the waist. For that one night, I felt like the belle of the ball. Then I went back to the real me – in flipflops, cutoff shorts and poptops 🙂

      • I usually felt like a gawky chicken but for that evening I felt beee-u-tee-full.

A poptop is a cropped top – not like a t-shirt – more like a little cotton top. I wore it with my long polka-dot shorts – when I wasn’t wearing bathing-suits, that is. I had a seriously minimalist summer wardrobe 🙂

  4. Apparently, it’s Tell an Author You Care Day, and you’re one of the authors I’ve chosen to thank.

I know I’ve never read any of your books (although I did enjoy your recent article “Haute Fun in the Summertime”)(Thanks for the mention, by the way!), but your blog posts are funny and informative. The Lj community that you started, , has made a huge impact on my life, my time management, my confidence, and how I view myself as a writer. The support I’ve received from this group has been priceless, and you will forever have my gratitude.

    Thank you!
